How we started
Several years ago I saw the need on my own property to start introducing more forms of food to our decent deer hunting land. After spending time creating food plots, bedding area, and hinge cutting, I wanted to add more. I planted around 50 trees on my property and saw more deer come to our property than in previous years around these trees. The deer will pass up a large amount of acorns to get to the groups of Chestnut Trees scattered throughout the property. They are now in their sixth year and slowly producing more and more every year.
Since I started growing my own Chestnut Trees I offered to start selling a few every year. I started with about a hundred saplings and have grown to having a few hundred to a couple thousand. Every year I seem to have new people interested.
My goal is to help out as many people as I can with the ability to have extra food for their deer in the state of Pennsylvania. I hope everyone can have success as I have in recent years taking target bucks on my hunting property.

Information
- Mature size could reach the height of 40-60 feet
- Chinese Chestnut Trees grow slow to medium rate and can grow 12 to 24 inches yearly
- Trees prefer to be in full sun, but should get at least six hours of sunlight
- The trees grow in acidic, loamy, most, sandy, well drained, and clay base soils. The trees are drought tolerant.
- Trees should be planted in groups to insure they are pollinated
- Trees begin to bear nuts 4-5 years if grown from a seed
- Deer prefer chestnuts 100 to 1 over acorns
- At maturity, trees can produce up to 100 pounds
- PH range of 4.5-6.5
- Best time to plant would be early spring or early fall, preferably when the tree is in dormancy
